Flying Tiger Line Flight 7413-23, a C-54A (N90433), ditched in the Pacific Ocean 1000 mi west off Honolulu due to triple engine failure caused by fuel exhaustion, killing three of the five crew on board.[53]

United Airlines Flight 409 crashed into Medicine Bow Peak during a flight from Denver, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah. All 63 passengers and three crew aboard died. At the time, this was the deadliest airline crash in U.S. commercial aviation history.

Peninsular Air Transport Flight 17K, a C-54-DO (N88852), crashed on climbout from Boeing Field due to propeller problems caused by maintenance errors, killing 28 of 74 on board.[54]
